The truth behind the Lauren Conrad sex-tape rumor heard round “The Hills” has finally surfaced.

At “The Hills” panel at PaleyFest09 in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, Conrad revealed that Spencer Pratt, the fiancé of her ex-BFF, Heidi Montag, admitted he started the rumor that she recorded an intimate video with former boyfriend, Jason Wahler. And Pratt’s admission about the tape — which does not exist — may possibly be in a future “Hills” episode.

“We actually have it on tape,” Conrad told the filled room of fans. “(Spencer) takes responsibility and apologizes for it.”

“Sorry! Spoiler!” Conrad quickly added, laughing.

Rumors of a sex tape first surfaced in between filming season two and three of “The Hills,” sparking a feud between Conrad and Montag. While Conrad always believed that Pratt and Montag were behind it, they denied any involvement.

In one of the episodes after the rumor began, Montag told Conrad’s friend, Jen Bunny, that Brody Jenner was responsible for the ugly gossip. And last night, Jenner had his say on the issue.

“It was just so messed up that there was no fixing and they were just trying to dig their way out of this grave they dug themselves in,” Jenner explained. “They knew they had spread the rumors… they were plotting and scheming to point the fingers at everybody else when everybody knew it was them who did it. There was no way of getting out of it. I think that was their desperate measure of trying to get out of it.”

The Hills were alive with episode spoilers, Speidi wedding gossip and talk of a possible sixth season with or without Lauren Conrad at tonight’s Paley Fest ’09 panel.

Lauren hit the carpet and podium along with her castmates Brody JennerAudrina PatridgeWhitney PortLo Bosworth and Stephanie Pratt, but Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were no-shows. Spencer’s sis Stephanie told the crowd that the two, whose weekend wedding is being filmed as the show’s season finale, were in the “studio, making hit music.”

Find out who got invited to the wedding and who didn’t, who’s going and who’s skipping it and what (not so) shocking revelation comes out on an upcoming episode of The Hills. Read on…

Lauren’s Big Spoiler Alert: When asked if she still believes that it was Spencer who spread the rumor that she had made a sex tape, Lauren said, “We have it on tape that he [Spencer] takes responsibility for it. Sorry. Spoiler!” Can’t wait for that episode to come!

Executive Producer Liz Gateley on a Sixth Season: ”We’re in talks and seeing if there is enough story to continue it. We hope if we do, Lauren will miss it so much she’ll want to come back.”

Brody on a Lauren-less Hills: ”The Hills is Lauren. If it goes, yes I would be a part of it. Hopefully, Lauren would come back somehow. It may die with Lauren; it may not.”

Stephanie on Being a Speidi Bridesmaid: “I’ve never been to a wedding before. I know that Holly is in it. I’m hoping that she is maid of honor because I will screw everything up. I don’t know if you watched any of the Kelly Cutrone scenes, but I’m really not good at following direction.” On prewedding festivities: “I don’t think Spencer is allowed to have a bachelor party. Holly and I are throwing around the idea of having a bridal shower before…I just hope no one objects [at the wedding].”

Brody on Heidi and Spencer: “I will just be attending the wedding and maybe sitting with Lauren and possibly my girlfriend and just kind of watching and taking it in. They are both pretty crazy. But who isn’t crazy? I think they just work together. They seem to click and that’s all that matters. Obviously it works out for them, and I’m happy for them.” On wedding plans with girlfriend Jayde: “We’re not rushing into anything. We’re not like Spencer and Heidi.”

Lauren on Not Attending: “I’m not planning on going, no. It was very nice of her to invite me, but she didn’t really expect me to go.”

Lo on Heidi and Spencer’s Union: ”I think they really love each other. They may be quirky in some ways, but they are perfect for each other, and at the end of the day that’s what’s important.” (Lo also said she’s not bringing a date to the wedding because her invite didn’t say “plus guest.”)

Audrina on Her Alleged Brody Hookup: ”Brody and I are just friends. And there is definitely a lot more drama with Justin and I to come [on the show].”

Whitney’s Second Season of The City“I’m still filming in New York, but we are making some changes. Possibly a job change, yes.” When asked about leaving Diane von Furstenberg, she said, “Nothing happened. There are no hard feelings. I want to try different things.” (Whitney, by the way, was not invited to the Speidi wedding.)

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are stealing the spotlight once again — this time with news of their upcoming wedding.

The rest of the cast of The Hills — including Lauren ConradAudrina PatridgeBrody Jenner and even Spencer’s sister Stephanie — were all buzzing about the nuptials at the Paley Fest at Hollywood’s Arclight Cinemas on Tuesday.

Audrina, who plans on attending the ceremony, told reporters, “They’re two peas in a pod … I can’t see either of them with anyone else.”

Brody, who will also attend, agreed. “They just work together,” he said. “There’s a lot of people out there, you never know if you’re going to click with them or not, and they seem to click and that’s all that matters … Obviously, it works out for them, and I’m happy for them.”

(What about the clicking between Audrina and Brody on a recent Hills episode? Any chance of a wedding hook-up? “Brody and I are just friends,” Audrina said. “I don’t want to give too much away, but he’s a great guy, and a nice person — and watch this season!”)

Lauren, on the other hand, said, “I’m not planning on going,” to the wedding, which will be filmed for the MTV show. “It was very nice of her to invite me, but I think she didn’t really expect me to come.”

But Conrad’s pal Stephanie will be front and center as one of Montag’s bridesmaids. “I know that [Heidi's sister] Holly is in it,” Stephanie said. “I’m hoping that she’s maid of honor because I will screw everything up … It’s hard because I’ve never been to a wedding before.”

As for the ceremony itself, Stephanie said, “It’s very traditional, and they want to keep everything white — Heidi’s dress is white.” The bridesmaid dresses will either be “a dress from BCBG or J. Crew,” she added. “Holly and I are just trying to coordinate. Heidi wanted a yellow or an ivory or a green [for her bridesmaids].”

But the couple aren’t keeping everything traditional. “I don’t think Spencer’s allowed to have a bachelor party,” Stephanie said. “I don’t think she’s having [a bachelorette party either]. Holly and I are throwing around the idea of having a bridal shower before, and just the rehearsal dinner.”

The wedding will be a first for The Hills, which is currently in its fifth season, and the possibility of drama is not lost on Stephanie, who expressed her wish for the happy couple: “I hope no one objects!”

The Hills star Lauren Conrad is branching out from reality television, as a guest voice on the “We Love You Conrad” episode of the Fox television series Family Guy (airing May 3rd) and as a Young Adult author with her first HarperCollins novel out in June.

On LC’s Family Guy episode, Brian (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) discovers that his beloved Jillian (guest voiced by Drew Barrymore) is getting married to her new boyfriend, he decides to drown his sorrows away, but wakes up with more than just a hangover. After realizing that he has just picked up The Hills star (voiced by herself), he wants to run and hide until he discovers that he may have found his perfect match.

During a recent phone interview, the 23-year-old Laguna Beach, Calif. native said she’s not interested in being an actress, but she would like to do some more voice-overs, in the future.

Q: Are you a fan of Family Guy and, if so, who is your favorite character?

Lauren: Yes, I am a fan of the show. I’ve watched it for years. My favorite character is Stewie (voiced by Seth MacFarlane).

Q: How did your appearance on the show come about?

Lauren: Awhile ago, I only did a few lines, but I did a couple of lines on an episode where they were watching television and they did a clip of Laguna Beach. So, I met Seth MacFarlane the first time I did the show.

Q: What’s it like, seeing a cartoon version of yourself?

Lauren: It’s fun! The most exciting part is to see what you look like animated. I think that I’m basically just a blonde character though, on this episode.

Q: What do you think when you saw the animation?

Lauren: I liked it! I feel like, unless you have a really prominent feature on your face, you kind of look like a cartoon character.

Q: Is there a Family Guy character that you think you’re most like?

Lauren: I don’t know if there’s someone I really want to be like, on that show. Maybe Lois. I feel like she’s the most normal.

Q: Your character on Family Guy meets Brian, who discovers that you’re nothing like what you’re portrayed as on TV. Do you think the real you is different from what people see on TV?

Lauren: A little bit. I don’t know if it’s necessarily me, or just the reputation of an average reality star that they were going for. But, the episode basically makes fun of me for being dumb, and then he discovers that I’m actually a genius and that it’s just a character I play because America likes dumb people. That’s the idea of it. I think it’s a more exaggerated version of who I am, but it was fun to play.

Q: Did you do any improvisation or have any input into the lines you said in this episode?

Lauren: No, I actually stuck to the script. Their writing is probably a lot better than what I would come up with. But, I did have to actually hire an acting coach, just for the day, to get me through it because a lot of the lines, later on in the episode, are very complicated. I’m talking a lot about history and theorems and conductors. There were a lot of facts and a lot of big words, and I had to say it as if it was coming to me very easily, so I had to learn the lines ahead of time, rather than just reading them. I actually had to research some of them because the acting coach I worked with told me that, if I really understood what I was talking about, it would come through a little more true.

Q: What was the most interesting fact you learned, while doing your research?

Lauren: Oh, they’ve since left my head. It was like when you memorize for a test and you cram the day before, and then you just push it out and fill it with US Weekly facts.

Q: Besides Family Guy and The Hills, what are your favorite shows on TV?

Lauren: Right now, I really like Lost. I’m watching Brothers & Sisters. And, 30 Rock is my favorite.

Lauren Conrad, the honey-blond star of MTV’s hit reality series “The Hills,” has attended the exclusive Crillon Ball in Paris, walked a runway at L.A. Fashion Week and been on the cover of Rolling Stone.

But she is about to brave a new frontier: Kohl’s, the discount department store chain.

Kohl’s is expected to announce Wednesday that in October, Ms. Conrad, 23, will introduce a casual California-inspired clothing line for young women in 300 Kohl’s stores and on Kohls.com. Later, Kohl’s plans to sell the exclusive brand, LC Lauren Conrad, in all of its more than 1,000 stores.

The retailer has become a favorite of analysts in part for a strategy of acquiring well-known brands (or brands by well-known people) and selling them at low prices. It is particularly effective in this economy where shopping is no longer a national pastime.

“To be important to the consumer today, you need to differentiate yourself,” Don Brennan, senior executive vice president of Kohl’s, said Monday in a telephone interview. “You need to give the customer a reason to come in and shop with you. And we feel like these exclusive brands do just that.”

It is a model that its higher scale competitor Target has used to its advantage and that Wal-Mart has struggled to master. Last year, exclusive and private brands at Kohl’s — like Simply Vera by Vera Wang; Elle, which is named for the women’s fashion magazine; and Food Network — accounted for more than 40 percent of the company’s sales. In March, when sales at most of the nation’s department stores open at least a year fell by double digits, sales at comparable Kohl’s stores fell a modest 4.3 percent.

Kohl’s executives are banking on Ms. Conrad’s celebrity — and on young women’s desire to emulate her feminine yet relaxed way of dressing, which has been chronicled for years on two MTV reality shows. Ms. Conrad has grown up on television — first as the good girl in the hit series “Laguna Beach,” about the rivalries and heartaches of privileged California teenagers, and then on “The Hills,” a spinoff that is MTV’s top-rated show.

“The Hills” picks up where “Laguna Beach” left off, following Ms. Conrad’s life as a student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, an intern at Teen Vogue, a single woman and a voice of reason among petty friends. Ms. Conrad’s rift with her former best friend, Heidi Montag, is one of the most talked-about pop culture rivalries since Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.

The collaboration between Kohl’s and Ms. Conrad has been in the works for more than a year, before the economy took a nose dive. Kohl’s, however, is in a category of stores — discount and low-price chains — uniquely positioned to weather a recession. Prices in Ms. Conrad’s clothing line are $20 to $60. That may work in her favor.

“Now that the economy’s not doing so well, I think it’s everybody that’s looking for bargains,” Ms. Conrad said. “I think that it’s actually great timing.”

This is not Ms. Conrad’s first attempt at designing a clothing line — but the low prices are new. In 2007, MTV and Tangerine promotions helped finance a line by Ms. Conrad called Lauren Conrad Collection. Casual dresses sold for more than $100 — and fans and some fashion writers complained. Ms. Conrad acknowledged in a telephone interview that the clothing line “wasn’t as accessible and affordable as I wanted it to be.”

Her new line will be exclusive to Kohl’s and will have wardrobe basics like jeans and knits. Kohl’s will manufacture, produce, distribute and market the collection. And Ms. Conrad and Kohl’s will collaborate on the designs.

Her original clothing line, Lauren Conrad Collection, is being overhauled, she said. She plans to take it overseas in 2010. “I wanted to give it a whole new feel,” she said, “but that requires us to take a few seasons off.”

Ms. Conrad’s label for Kohl’s represents a new chapter for her: she has said this will be her last season on “The Hills.” Little did fans know that while she was darting in and out of nightclubs with a camera crew, she was spending her days with Kohl’s.

“I’m very excited that I’m allowed to talk about it now,” she said.
