The glitterati gathered at the Gibson Amphitheatre to celebrate the past year in cinema at this year’s MTV Movie Awards. But, more importantly, they strutted their stuff down the red carpet in chic (or, in some cases, totally chill) outfits.

The sun might have been beating down on the carpet, but that wasn’t the only thing that kept celebrities looking hot, hot, hot — it was also their very unique style. Still, however creative the stars got with their looks (hey, Chris Isaac, way to bring back the dog-as-accessory fad with your adorable white puppy!), there were a few standout trends that caught our attention. And no, one of them is not leopard-print leotards, though we do give major props to Brüno for such a wild choice.

Bringing Back the ’80s
Grab your crimping irons and scrunchies, folks, because we’re taking a trip back to the totally tubular decade. The ’80s were first ushered onto the red carpet with Ashley Greene’s neon-yellow clutch and continued with the entrance of Soulja Boy Tell’em, who sported a khaki cardigan with hot-pink piping and a white T-shirt with a neon-colored graphic. Many A-list femmes rocked the trend, including Sienna Miller in a long-sleeved sequined frock with what looked to be shoulder pads (though maybe it was just the cut of the fabric). Lauren Conrad said bye to “The Hills” in a flouncy black-and-red dress that included a tiered, voluminous skirt that so could’ve made a cameo at the prom in “Pretty in Pink.” Also invited to that prom: Conrad’s pal, Stephanie Pratt, who showed off layers with her Soltani gown, and Lil Mama, who wore a bold turquoise dress, satin magenta clutch and vibrant yellow stilettos.

Fresh on the heels of “The Hills” season finale, Lauren Conrad arrived at the 2009 MTV movie Awards looking lovely as always.

The SoCal cutie was the center of attention as she meandered around the arrivals area at the Gibson Amphitheatre sporting a gorgeous red and navy floral print sleeveless dress along with a pair of black open-toed lace-up heels.

And while Miss Conrad was playing it cool, there is plenty to be excited about at tonight’s event, as Eminem is returning to the stage for a killer performance.

In addition, SNL funnyman Andy Samberg is manning the microphone as the host of the evening, so there’s no telling what may happen.

Fans of MTV’s “Laguna Beach” and “The Hills” will be lining up to purchase Lauren Conrad’s new novel entitled, “L.A. Candy” on June 16th, 2009. Lauren Conrad typically works in the fashion industry, but was inspired by her real life experiences on MTV to write a fiction novel. The synopsis is suspiciously similar to what viewers have seen on TV, but it is a work of fiction, so not everything will be personally true.

According to Barnes and Noble, the synopsis for the novel says, “Los Angeles is all about the sweet life: hot clubs, cute guys, designer . . . everything. Nineteen-year-old Jane Roberts can’t wait to start living it up. She may be in L.A. for an internship, but Jane plans to play as hard as she works, and has enlisted her BFF Scarlett to join in the fun.

When Jane and Scarlett are approached by a producer who wants them to be on his new series, a “reality version of Sex and the City,” they can hardly believe their luck. Their own show? Yes, please!

Soon Jane is TV’s hottest star. Fame brings more than she ever imagined possible for a girl from Santa Barbara — free designer clothes, the choicest tables at the most exclusive clubs, invites to Hollywood premieres — and she’s lapping up the VIP treatment with her eclectic entourage of new pals. But those same friends who are always up for a wild night are also out for a piece of Jane’s spotlight.

In a city filled with people chasing after their dreams, it’s not long before Jane wakes up to the reality that everyone wants something from her, and nothing is what it seems to be.

L.A. Candy is a deliciously entertaining novel about what it’s like to come of age in Hollywood while starring in a reality TV show, written by a girl who has experienced it all firsthand: Lauren Conrad.”

Sure to be an interesting and juicy read, this is one not to miss, especially for Lauren Conrad fans seeking a more intimate look into the life of a reality television star.

Reality TV star Lauren Conrad will be more real than ever to Naperville residents this June.

Conrad, star of the reality TV show “The Hills” and cast member of “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County,” will be in Naperville on June 20 at Anderson’s Bookshop to sign copies of her new book, “L.A. Candy.”

No synopses of the book are posted yet, but Teen Vogue posted an excerpt from the first 336-page installment. In the excerpt, heroine Jane Roberts deals with the reality of a TV production crew following her through a day at work. The crew films, re-films and adjusts Roberts’ “reality” for the world of TV as Roberts wonders whether the day’s events are real or set-ups for the camera.

“The books will be loosely inspired by my own experience and are definitely influenced by my own life,” Conrad said on her MySpace page. “Some of the characters may symbolize people in my life, but it is in no way calling anyone out.”

“Laguna Beach” followed Conrad and a group of her friends as they graduated from their senior year of high school. “The Hills” follows her life after graduation as she attends fashion school in L.A. and pursues a fashion career.

“I’ve always loved books that I could lose myself in,” Conrad said. “I’m so excited to have this opportunity to write books like that for other readers.”

Anderson’s Bookshop has 250 tickets to the event, and is expecting to sell out. The bookshop has more than 100 left right now, said assistant manager Doris Blechman. Tickets are included free with a pre-order of “L.A. Candy” from the bookstore. The book is $17.99 on the store’s Web site.

Blechman said although it’s early for people to be getting interested in the event, she’s been getting calls for tickets from teens and young adults.

“At this point it isn’t Harry Potter,” she said. “It’s a little bit early. So far (the excitement) is just building, and as the calls are coming in people are very excited about it.”
