Lauren Conrad usually keeps her feelings about former best friend, Heidi, and her hubby, Spencer Pratt, to herself, but in the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar, “The Hills” star goes to town on America’s most hated couple.
When asked about Montag posing for the September issue of Playboy, L.C. pokes fun at Heidi’s breast enhancements, saying, “They’re not going to pay for themselves.”
She also weighs in on the couple’s attention-seeking gimmicks.
“I don’t call magazines and let them know about things so they can write stories,” she says of the camera-loving couple. “There was never an incentive to keep doing ‘The Hills’ so I could get into [Hollywood club] Les Deux. That was never the point. It was more to create a fan base so I can go create a business and do something I really love doing.”
And as for Speidi turning their honeymoon in Mexico into a photo-op by wearing surgical masks during the swine-flu scare, Lauren says, “I don’t know if it was so funny because people really were being affected by that disease,” she says. “But otherwise [Heidi and Spencer] are very entertaining. You have to laugh.”
For Lauren, whose life has been documented on reality TV for the past five years, fame is not as glamorous as it seems. She explains that leaving “The Hills” will simplify her life tremendously.
“The last three concerts I went to, I was removed by security because I was a fire hazard,” she gripes. “People crowd around you and you lose that whole personal-space concept.”
L.C. added that she has had very little control over her life.
“My roommate went to Europe for two months, but I couldn’t take a vacation without clearing it months and months ahead of time,” she says. “My friends all got to date guys who didn’t need to sign a release form.”
The cameras even affected clothing choices for the budding fashionista. She added that filming “affected the underwear I had to buy because I needed thicker underwear with a more sturdy band so it could hold up a microphone.”
For Bazaar, Conrad wore a brown wig, which hairstylist Ken Paves has decided to personally donate the wig to a girl named Emily who is undergoing Chemo treatments at a hospital in the Detroit area.
“I couldn’t wear whites or prints because they don’t look good on film,” she explains. “I had to consult a director of photography when I picked the paint for my walls because I had to have set lighting in my living room and kitchen. I had to have separate birthday parties for my filming and nonfilming friends.”
Perhaps Speidi will one day agree with Lauren that fame isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Hopefully that day is soon.

A while back we spotted Lauren Conrad sporting a brown wig for Harper’s Bazaar. And now it’s time for the great reveal. Lauren was wearing it as part of what the mag calls “a social experiment.”
Bazaar hypothesized that if they replaced L.C.’s blond locks with a brunette long bob but still dressed her up as a movie star and sent her to common paparazzi hangouts, she might be able to find “a little peace and quiet, if not complete anonymity.”
Truly, it’s one of the most fascinating and significant experiments of our time. Let’s see what the subject has to say:
“I think initially the wig threw people off, but they figured it out,” Lauren reported back. ”I felt like it only disguised me for a moment, and then it made me feel like I was hiding, which made me feel silly.”
Anything else, Miss Conrad?
“Day to day, I can only do blonde. Everything else makes me look sort of plain-Jane.”
Guess that makes this a social experiment fail. But don’t let that get you down, Bazaar, just keep researching and maybe one day a cure for Lauren Conrad’s fame will be discovered.

Still transitioning to life away from reality television, Lauren Conrad was spotted out and about in Beverly Hills, California on Wednesday (July 15).
After grabbing up lunch at Mr Chow restaurant, the “Hills” hottie joined made her way down the street with a few businessmen as paparazzi followed along.
Keeping her followers up to date on her schedule, Miss Conrad briefly tweeted, “Meetings all day…”
As previously reported, LC is currently basking in the success of her recently released book, L.A. Candy, which has topped the New York Times Best-Seller List for two weeks in a row.
Talking about her good fortunes, Lauren told People magazine, “If someone said to me five years ago when this all started that I would one day make the New York Times Best Seller list I wouldn’t have believed it. I am so honored that it is now a reality.”

SO, when did reality star Kim Kardashian morph into a lounge act?
And how is it that the tattoo parlor where they film the reality series “LA Ink” is being compared to Grauman’s Chinese Theatre – the one with the movie stars’ handprints in cement?
Reality TV is starting to go way beyond TV.
The stars of shows like “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” are finding they can make as much money – if not more – off the screen.
“The Hills” star Lauren Conrad will be going head-to-head with the Kardashians in – of all places – Atlantic City. LC is headlining a party at Harrah’s Resort July 25, the same night the Kardashians are taking over the theater at the Atlantic City Hilton.
“In a sense, these aren’t actors – they appeal more to regular people because they are regular people,” says club owner Eugene Remm, who’s hosted many reality-star parties at his nightspots Tenjune and The Chandelier Room (in Hoboken’s W Hotel).
“It’s like, ‘Hey, I watch her show, she’s not acting. She’s really a bitch, or she’s really a sweetheart and I’d like to meet her,’ ” Remm says.
“You’re dealing with a certain clientele that, when they go to these events, the [reality stars] are more tangible.
“They can probably say hello to Kim Kardashian or Lauren Conrad because they’re more friendly – and not actress-type divas.
“And in a seasonal business like Atlantic City, where everyone is competing and needs something to separate themselves from the pack . . . there’s more appeal in the reality genre.”
Industry sources say Conrad will likely earn upwards of $25,000 for her one-night-only party appearance.
The Kardashians – mom Kris, stepdad Bruce Jenner and sisters Kim, Kourtney and Khloe – could earn several times that for their show, “Up Close and Personal,” in which they discuss their E! series and take questions from the audience.
And it’s not just stage acts.
The manager of High Voltage Tattoo, where the weekly show “LA Ink” is filmed, told the LA Times this week that he figures 90 percent of its customers are fans of the TV show.
Katsuya Hollywood, the fancy restaurant and bar on Hollywood Boulevard where MTV’s “The Hills” has filmed, estimates that 40 percent of its weekend business alone is tourists wanting to see what the place is really like.

We already got a sneak peek at Lauren Conrad’s brunette tresses when she was spotted on the set of a photo shoot for Harper’s Bazaar and now, the images are out! The fashion magazine had the California girl change up her signature blonde hair for a day-long experiment. But even a wig wasn’t enough to disguise the famous reality star. “I think initially the wig threw people off, but they figured it out. I felt like it only disguised me for a moment, and then it made me feel like I was hiding, which made me feel silly,” Lauren tells Harper’s. Lauren might have considered dying her hair dark to keep the Hills producers from for coercing her to come back on screen, but “I went into a wig store and tried on a brown wig, and they all laughed at me. All these women [who worked there] were like, ‘You look like Hannah Montana.’ So after a day in her dark wig, Lauren’s verdict was in. “Day to day, I can only do blonde. Everything else makes me look sort of plain-Jane.” Pick up the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar to read more about of Lauren’s day as a brunette. Issue hits stands July 21st.

Lauren Conrad is on a tear!
Her debut novel, L.A. Candy, tops the New York Times best-seller list for the second week since its June 16 release.
This begs an oh-so-obvious question: Might the Hills hottie be the next Stephenie Meyer?
Sure, the Twilight author can tout some ridiculous number of weeks at the top for the four books combined, as well as that whole Robert Pattinson movie thing, but L.C. is just getting started. Plus, the blond beauty has two more books to go in her series. Sound familiar?
What do you think? Can Candy break down Breaking Dawn?
Take the poll!
