Derek Hough & Lauren ConradTalk about making beautiful babies together—that is if things get serious between Derek Hough and Lauren Conrad.  Yup, I just got word that…

There’s a romance brewing between the Dancing With the Stars hoofer and former queen of the Hills. “They’ve been on a few dates together,” a source says. Just last night, the two raised eyebrows when they hit Jason Scoppa’s weekly live music show at the Sayers Club in Hollywood. “They were pretty cozy. Definitely playful and flirty,” reports a fellow clubgoer.

How so? “They were close to each other,” the source explained. “He had his arm around her waist. They were dancing and also holding hands.” When they left, the paparazzi snapped away, but the two didn’t stand too close together. A big burly security guy also stood in front of them to try to block the shots.

Conrad most recently ended a long relationship with actor Kyle Howard in June, while Hough was linked to former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole. Reps for Hough and Conrad didn’t comment.

Lauren ConradLauren Conrad seems to have found the trick to making great clothes. “Design selfishly,” Conrad, who has a self-titled collection for Kohl’s as well as her new Paper Crown line, tells PEOPLE. Her motto for creating each season’s signature look? “You know what you’d want to buy — design it.” Simple enough.

“I love floor-length pieces in pretty fabrics,” continues the former reality star, who created a resort collection for Paper Crown full of maxi dresses in a variety of silhouettes. But for fall, she’s feeling leather — faux, that is. “You can find an alternative to leather or fur, so use it,” she says. “I like that faux leather has more stretch, so we did a legging, which I love.”

There’s a continuity in each season for each line that comes from Conrad’s own vision. “The look is soft, romantic, pretty,” she explains. And she’s also figured out that style isn’t just about looking good. “Dress in what makes you feel good about yourself too,” she advises.

The California girl isn’t only involved in fashion these days; she just finished a stint as a guest writer on Forbes.com and recently announced plans to launch a beauty line based on her popular new website, TheBeautyDepartment.com.

Conrad was photographed at her Laguna Beach home for PEOPLE’s Oct. 10 issue (on newsstands now). To see her personal photos from the shoot — part of which took place in her favorite room, her “beachy and glamorous” bathroom! — head to LaurenConrad.com.

Lauren ConradLC seems to be choosing business over boys!

After calling it quits with boyfriend Kyle Howard back in June, Lauren Conrad hasn’t really been a fixture in the Hollywood singles scene — she’s too busy focusing on Lauren Conrad, Inc.

Conrad, who launched TheBeautyDepartment.com with her hair pro Kristen Ess and makeup artist Amy Nadine back in April, plans to take the style website’s beauty how-tos to the next level. “Right now, one of my main objectives is to expand TheBeautyDepartment.com into a product line,” the 25-year-old, wrote on her Forbes.com blog September 19.

The reality star turned fashion designer also plans to expand her two existing apparel lines, LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s and the recently launched Paper Crown, as well as her personal website LaurenConrad.com. “On top of that, I’ll be working on completing my fifth book, The Fame Game,” the Hills alum added.

Would you buy from LC’s makeup line?

Lauren ConradFeminine, romantic, and classy are three words I would use to describe Lauren Conrad‘s new line, Paper Crown. Lauren got the name “paper crown” from when she used to play dress up at her Grandma’s house, where they would make paper crowns and decorate them with glitter. On her website, Lauren says that Paper Crown is a line that allows you to play dress up in a grown up world.

Lauren already has a Kohl’s line, but it’s not related to Paper Crown. Paper Crown was a separate project that she wanted to start, so that she could move at her own pace and use higher end and higher quality fabrics. The pieces are whimsical and the lines are clean. The color palette is soft, sweet, and so wearable!

The line is perfect for homecoming, date night, or a night out on the town. Lauren sat down with Seventeen and told us about her homecoming memories, date night tips, and her favorite pieces from the line:

Seventeen: Is there a dress that you can think of that would be a good dress for homecoming?
Lauren Conrad: Well, I always wanted to wear a longer dress, because I feel like you have so many fewer opportunities to do that. I would say the long tiered chiffon dress.

17: Do you have a favorite piece in the collection for a date?
LC: Dates are always hard. You don’t want to be too dressed up or too casual. You have to be careful about heel height, you know the whole thing. I really love the faux leather leggings, because that’s such a staple in my night life wardrobe.

17: How should you feel in the outfit?
LC: I think they should be in something you feel comfortable in. You don’t want to be fidgety all night in something too tight or too short. I think it’s definitely important to look like yourself on a date. You don’t want to look like someone else with too much makeup or too much hair. But it’s also very important to know what you’re going to do. Because you don’t want to dress for a dinner date, and then you go bowling. You know what I mean?

Whether you wear Paper Crown to Homecoming or on a date with the quarterback, I think it’s a line that is versatile and here to stay. When talking with Lauren’s team at the event, they said as the line continues on, you will see Lauren’s vision evolve. They said she really knows what’s right and has a great sense of her fashion. I can’t wait to see more!

What do you think of LC’s new line? Sound off below!

Check out Lauren’s latest post for Forbes.com posted on September 19, 2011 below:

Lauren ConradHi Forbes Lifestyle Readers,

I want to thank you for tuning in for the past few months. I had a great time discussing the business end of my various projects and the many lessons I’ve learned along the way.

What’s next? Quite a bit! Right now, one of my main objectives is to expand TheBeautyDepartment.com into a product line. I am currently researching all of my options, but should begin the process of executing an actual line very soon—stay tuned. I’m also focusing on expanding my other existing brands: LC Lauren Conrad, LaurenConrad.com and Paper Crown. On top of that, I’ll be working on completing my fifth book, The Fame Game.

While the future is bright, I cannot forget the missteps I have made along the way. My mistakes ended up teaching me the most invaluable lessons, which have molded me into the businesswoman I am today. I have taken chances, broken rules and cut corners and these shortcuts haven’t always resulted in my favor. But, of all the slipups I’ve made, I honestly don’t think I would go back and correct a single one.

It’s important to make mistakes in your career, especially in the beginning. When you are just starting out you can make hasty decisions and take big chances since the stakes are rarely high early on. Trust me, it’s far better to learn those lessons sooner rather than later. By learning from failed opportunities, I’ve transformed past mistakes into flourishing brands and businesses. As basic as it may sound, learning from your mistakes is a vital part of becoming a successful entrepreneur.

While my ventures are unique due to my celebrity, I hope you learned a thing or two from the experiences I’ve shared with you. If nothing else, remember this: Do something that you love, surround yourself with people you trust, learn from your mistakes, work hard, and don’t let other people’s opinions of you become your limitations.

XO Lauren
