After halting production of her first signature clothing line last year amidst a bleak retail landscape, Lauren Conrad is back at it again, with plans for a new contemporary collection already underway.

With her affordable Lauren Conrad collection already being sold at Kohl’s, the former Hills star tells PEOPLE she is starting a new line with several of her best friends. “It’s a contemporary women’s line,” she revealed to PEOPLE while hosting a party at Las Vegas’s Tao Beach on Saturday. “Where Kohl’s is a lot of daywear, it’s a lot of basics. This will be more specialty basics, more of a boutique line. It will be at a higher price point. It will be very different.”

And while Conrad, 24, said the new collection is just getting started, she can’t contain her excitement. “It’s one thing to work with a huge retailer like Kohl’s and there is so much you get to do, but there is a little more of a thrill of doing it on your own,” she said. “It’s a lot more work, it’s a lot more stressful, but it’s something I love doing so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Tell us: are you looking forward to another clothing line from Lauren?

If you are anything like us, you have been a big fan of Lauren Conrad, once known as “LC” on Laguna Beach and you sported TEAM LAUREN tees from Hollister. But now, our Lauren is all grown up and has so many amazing things going on in her life — from life after The Hills to her new collection, Kohl’s line and latest books — Lauren Conrad is a name you just can’t forget.

How has life been since The Hills?

It’s been great! It’s always a little scary to make a big change like I did when I decide to leave the show, but I don’t regret it one bit. Since I’ve left I’ve discovered a new love… writing! I have had such an amazing experience writing my novels and touring the country for signings. It’s been an exciting year and I’ve learned so much.

Also, I have been having such great time working on my Kohl’s line and have been blown away by the support I have received. Fashion has always been what I have loved to do and I feel so fortunate to be working with such a great partner. Aside from that, I have really enjoyed having a personal life and the opportunity to do a little traveling. All and all, I’d say it’s been a great year.

We just finished reading your second book, Sweet Little Lies (HarperCollins) and of course, it kept us wanting more — How did the idea of your LA Candy Series come about? Was writing something you have always been interested in?

The concept of the LA Candy series was more of a compromise than an original thought. I was interested in writing a dating book (sort of a what-not-to-do for someone who’s made all of the mistakes) and HarperCollins wanted me to write a tell-all about The Hills. Since I wasn’t comfortable revealing the secrets of others we began talking about a fictional series. This way I could tell the story of a journey similar to the my own without calling anyone out…but still include insider knowledge from someone who’s lived it.

How are the books [related] to your personal life - was that the inspiration?

I wrote from experiences and I also based characters on a compilation of people I had met in my life but the books aren’t real life. I had a ton of fun playing make-believe.

I have to say, you have always been a great decorator — your house on television and apartment was very chic. Is a decorating or lifestyle book something you may do in the future?

It’s funny that you say that because I have always struggled with decorating. I can throw an outfit together in 30 seconds flat but show me an empty room or blank wall and I’m stumped. I have learned a few things along the way like…the color you paint your walls will reflect off your skin (example: green wall make u look sick), flowers are a great way to add a pop color to any room (peonies are the best), and flea markets are great for finding deals and original pieces. I would love to write a book about decorating because I would learn so much in the process and then get to share it with others.

A few seasons ago we saw your collection during LA Fashion Week. Do you plan on showing again at some point?

I am currently starting up a new clothing line with one of my best friends. It’s a contemporary line similar to my original but with a different look. The first season we are designing is Fall 2011.

You always seem to have a lot going on - never a dull moment! What is up next for you?

I have a book tour coming up in the beginning of October. Actually it’s a double tour for my third novel, Sugar & Spice, and a Style guide that I wrote (Lauren Conrad Style). Besides that I have the clothing lines to keep me busy, but I am also looking for the perfect project to produce. I’ve always loved the production side of entertainment and would love to be a part of it. I just want to be careful to select a show that I’ll love. I want my first one to be great!

We just can’t wait for the next book to come out in the LA Candy series. Sugar & Spice, along with Lauren’s Style book will hit shelves in October. Start counting down now! In the meantime make sure you pick up the page-turning series and stay-up-to date with Lauren on Twitter and on her website. Of course, the LA Candy series gets the cupcakeMAG stamp of approval - they all are must-reads!

Venturing out for a night on the town, Lauren Conrad was among the stars attending the SBE’s launch of Hyde Lounge at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Friday (November 6).

The former MTV reality star looked sexy in a sheer white top with tight black leather pants as she posed for a few pictures before joining up with fellow guests including her former “Hills” BFF/roomie Lauren “Lo” Bosworth.

As for Miss Conrad’s recent work endeavors, she’s been slowly moving along with the process of turning her best-selling “LA Candy” book into a movie.

Talking about the process with MTV, LC recently said, “You know what — in our initial meeting when I was really trying to get the point across of what I wanted this movie to be about, I was saying Hollywood isn’t normal. When you live in Hollywood, you feel like you live in a crazy world.”

“I told them one thing I wanted to capture was that moment when you’re inside a swarm of 20 paparazzi and you can’t move and you don’t know what to do and it’s terrifying,” she said. “And I don’t think anyone’s ever illustrated that before.”

Kohl’s Department Stores is launching LC Lauren Conrad, a contemporary lifestyle
brand for women, in approximately 300 Kohl’s stores and Kohls.com this fall.

Lauren Conrad speaks to her new partnership with Kohl’s Department Stores during a recent visit to Milwaukee on March 26, 2009. Kohl’s announced the exclusive launch of LC Lauren Conrad, a contemporary lifestyle brand that will launch in the women’s department beginning this October. Check it out below! (Sound comes in a bit into the video)

It’s a clothes call for Lauren Conrad!

One month after the 23-year-old designer announced that she was taking a hiatus from her upscale clothing line, the Hills star reveals that she is launching a brand-new apparel line for Kohl’s department stores.

“It is a California chic line,” she tells Usmagazine.com of the new brand, called LC Lauren Conrad. “It is a little more casual. They are basically trying to take that California style and make it accessible everywhere.”

The line — which will consist of only apparel at first but may expand to include shoes, jewelry, handbags, intimates and sleepwear — will be available in October exclusively at Kohl’s stores and on the store’s website. The prices will range from $20 to $60.

“We are very excited to announce our partnership with Lauren Conrad, a pop culture icon whose style resonates with our contemporary customer,” Don Brennan, the senior vice president of Kohl’s, told Us in a statement Monday.

He added: “We are confident the LC Lauren Conrad collection brings customers both the contemporary style and the world-class brands they want at a price that delivers incredible value.”

So why did she decide to take time off from the Lauren Conrad Collection — which is more expensive and only available in select boutiques — to create the national Kohl’s line?

“It was just kind of a battle I had because I wanted to do a higher-end line — I wanted to do a contemporary line — but I was also very aware that the reason I was able to do it at such a young age was because of fans that have supported the show and have supported me,” Conrad tells Us. “So this was my way of being able to still do what I love and work with a great company and also make it accessible to the fans that made it possible in the first place.”

Plus, the star admits that she has shopped at the store.

“My family has always shopped at Kohl’s, so I’ve always known about them and I think that they do a really great job,” Conrad says of the franchise, which has also partnered with designer Vera Wang.

Conrad’s personal collection will be back next spring, and she tells Us that fans could pair styles from both of her lines.

“I like having more of an eclectic style where you mix high ends and more affordable pieces,” she says. “It’s great to be able to go to a store like Kohl’s and get really good classic pieces and mix them into your wardrobe.”

Lauren Conrad has taken to her MySpace Celebrity blog to clear up rumors about her clothing line, which is currently “on hiatus.”

“A few days ago a statement was released to the showrooms that carry my clothing line. It asked them to let the stores know that I was planning to take a couple seasons off from my line so that I could make some changes that I felt were necessary,” she writes.

“As a result, a lot of people were under the impression that my line was being discontinued or had been dropped,” she continues. “This isn’t the case at all. The truth is, I was the one who asked to take a couple seasons off.”

Conrad says she has “learned so much in the past year and I want to apply that to the improvement of my clothing line. I also wanted to make some changes in production so I would be able to lower the price point. That being said, I am actually really excited about beginning this process.”

She has been spending the last couple of weeks working on new designs for the spring, “which is when I am planning to bring the (new and improved) line back.”

Before signing off, Conrad told fans she has some “very exciting things going on that will be announced shortly.”
