Lauren is the covergirl for the April issue of Redbook Magazine!
Former reality star, Lauren Conrad, has become a serious designer with a knack for making women look cute, slim, and confident. She showed off her fashion skills on three deserving women who’ve been through a lot this year.
When Lauren Conrad blows in for our photo shoot one afternoon in late winter, it’s like she’s brought a slice of Los Angeles to frigid midtown Manhattan. Outside, the day turns unseasonably warm; inside, the walls are brightly papered with drawings of the spring collection the 27-year-old designed for LC Lauren Conrad, her crowd-pleasing Kohl’s line. It was Lauren’s idea to give the three women you see on these pages some much-needed fashion TLC, and she instantly goes about making them comfortable on set. “I’m going to touch you awkwardly–just smile,” she jokes with Lisa as she adjusts her scooped neckline. Then she teaches Diane how to execute a perfect Toddlers & Tiaras pageant turn. It’s clear why she won over millions of reality-TV addicts on MTV’s hits Laguna Beach and The Hills; she really is “the nice one.”
But it’s not just rabid 20-something fans snapping up Lauren’s Kohl’s line and her higher-end collection, Paper Crown. Her silky tops and bright dresses have become go-to’s for women with kids and busy lives and less-than-perfect bodies–evidence that she isn’t the typical reality star cashing in by becoming a “designer” (cough, Snooki, cough). “At first, I was just designing for myself,” she says with her typical honesty. “Then I started getting comments from women who didn’t have my body type, saying things like, ‘I have a larger chest and can’t wear this tent-shaped dress.’ So I’ve learned to make pieces that don’t necessarily flatter me but look great on someone else.”
